Clarissa Falls and the Clarissa Falls Resort is a great place just a short drive from San Ignacio Town. We went here for the second time, since the first time I tried to shoot the falls it was way too bright and the sun washed them out. I was able to get a couple long exposure shots off before it grew completely dark and the bugs came out in full force.
I recommend checking out Clarissa Falls Resort to anyone looking for accommodations in the San Ignacio area. Ms. Chena, the owner, is so nice and hospitable...and makes THE BEST fruit smoothies I've ever had. There are multiple cabanas on the property for rent and a big palapa to eat homemade meals under. You'll have to share the facilities with the multitude of animals wandering the grounds, including chickens, dogs, turkeys, iguanas, and one unruly goose, to name a few. Then it's a short walk down some stairs to the river and falls below, where you can take a dip or use the provided canoe or raft to cross to the other side of the Mopan River. Clarissa Falls Resort is a TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice 2015 Winner as well.
