Top 10 Travel Images Guatemala 2015

El Remate is a small village on the east end of Lake Peten Itza, almost directly in between Tikal and Flores.  This quaint town is a perfect location to stay to avoid the expensive hotel in Tikal or the crowded, noisy streets of Flores.  We chose to stay at La Casa de Don David, which offered this sunset view of the lake.

Flores, Guatemala is a small island village on Lake Peten Itza that was built over the old city of Tayasal, and has plenty of hotels, restaurants, cafes, and other great sightseeing spots. When we were there the island was experiencing dramatic flood waters, as seen in the image above.

At Dawn, Flores , Guatemala

I shot the above image while wandering the deserted streets of Flores at sunrise.  While the town was waking up, this lone boater was making his way out onto Lake Peten Itza in the beautiful morning light, shining on the colorful island buildings, casting rippled reflections onto the lake.

The rains had caused extreme flood waters, and I liked how this pool reflected the island's church in the center of the city.
