Placencia Peninsula | Southern Belize

It's been one month since entering the country of Belize, and Natasha and I still hadn't been in the ocean.  So we took a weekend trip to Placencia, in the Stann Creek District of Southern Belize.

We had heard good things about the peninsula, and quickly discovered all the rumors were true.

Placencia is a quaint beach town filled with locals and ex-pats alike, with little Mayan stores selling arts & crafts and many restaurants & bars to patronize.  Placencia is in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the narrowest main street in the world, which is a walking path running the length of the town able to hold maybe two people walking side-by-side.

While there we booked a snorkeling excursion to Laughingbird Caye, about 12 miles off the Placencia coast.  It's a small island designated a National Park of Belize, and home to many nesting local birds.

The marine life is out of this world, and I say that having lived in Hawaii doing daily dives.  I'd recommend visiting the cayes off of Belize to anyone looking for adventure, from the enthusiast to the serious diver.
