I wanted to shoot a sunset image of the Indianapolis skyline, but I wanted a different view-point from the usual ones I see online. Everybody does the shot of the canal going into downtown next to the Indiana State Museum, including me. That's a great shot, but it's been done so many times. I also see quite a few from the river that are usually shot closer to White River State Park, north of where I took the image below. Yes there are some power lines in the shot as well as the power plant, but that's what I like about it! The small rock dam leads your eye from left to right up to the road, right into the power plant that uses the river's power to produce electricity...I assume for the very city it sits next to.

These two shots along the train tracks are ones I haven't seen before either. I love shooting trains, and the above image worked out great! This particular train had quite a few cars and I noticed some open ones coming, so I was able to blur some of the cars to show the buildings through the train.

I zoomed in to around 70mm for the above image, so I could capture the city's contrast of old & new buildings together. I included just enough of the blue from the foreground building to complement the blue from the JW Marriott, also to add another horizontal line dimension.
This shot was at around 45mm to tighten the frame and take the power plant out of the composition this time. I wanted to include the sign at the bottom of the frame, then the river, then the skyline.
