I was able to make it downtown the other morning to witness a brilliant Detroit sunrise. I set up on top of Z Parking Garage, which is a great spot overlooking Detroit’s cityscape. The images below are a 3-shot sequence, taken 10-15 minutes between one another, while panning from left to right (or East to South). I tried to showcase a few of the different stages of sunrise, three of them shown below:
1 – The Blue Hour
In the first image the blue hour is ending, and it has begun the switch from night to day. Hints of blue can still be seen in the taller buildings, as well as the top clouds.
2 – Civil Twilight
The sky has exploded with color in the below image, now facing the Detroit River and GM’s Renaissance Center.
3 – Sunrise
By the last image, the sun had risen enough to cast light on the building to the far right of the frame. Each window seemed to create a different color.
