If you ever find yourself in Northern Thailand, specifically Chiang Rai, I recommend a day trip to the Doi Chaang hills. It is filled with sprawling landscapes. Mountains with coffee, tea, papaya, pineapple and many other various fruit trees are all growing here. The photographic opportunities are endless!
I was lucky enough to meet a fellow photographer and local business owner within my first few hours upon arriving in Chiang Rai. He was kind enough to drive me around and we spent the afternoon making photos in the mountains. But if that doesn’t happen to you, renting a motorbike is an easy way to explore the area. The Doi Chaang Loop will take a half day or full day, depending on how many stops you make.
The area is inhabited by the Akha hill tribe. These indigenous people grow and sell coffee in the region. They make for great photo opportunities along the way. The coffee is pretty good too! Make sure to stop at the Coffee Farm for a cup.
