Another gem found in the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest, Rio On Pools is a network of waterfalls and pools leading up to the breathtaking drop of Thousand Foot Falls. I went by myself to spend the day shooting pics and flowing with the current along the slippery rock formations leading from pool to refreshing pool. There are rock platforms to jump off of into the water, though I am advised by my girlfriend to be careful when I’m in the Mountain Pine Ridge alone, that are quite slippery, but exciting.
Rio On Pools and the Rio Frio Cave is not far from San Ignacio Town, but the roads are less than desirable and take a bit of maneuvering, with a 4WD being a must! So take your time and allow about 2 hours to drive the 20 miles or so to get there. Upon arrival, the trail down is well marked and cleared and is an easy 2 minute walk to the spectacular Rio On Pools.

That beauty! 🙂
Thank you!
These pictures are beautiful. I have yet to visit the Rio on pools. I must say that Rio Cave is a nice place too.
Thanks I’m glad you like them. Ya I’ve heard Rio Cave is awesome but haven’t made it there yet…so much to see!
Do you live in Cayo?
Yes. I do. I’m originally from o.w but came here for school and I don’t want to leave. It’s too beautiful here. It’s a nice little place.
