Tikal, translated from Maya as”City of Spiritual Voices,” is one of the most magnificent of all Mayan sites. The 222-square mile Tikal National Park is located in northern Guatemala, in the heart of El Peten. This is a must see for anyone in Central America, particularly Belize & Guatemala, who has an interest in the Maya and their cities/way of life.

Temple III, or the Great Priest Temple, is the second tallest of Tikal, at 196 feet. The tallest, Temple IV, rises above the rainforest canopy at 212 feet and was under a restoration at the time of our visit.
