Trincomalee, Sri Lanka | Travel photography locations in Sri Lanka

At the beginning of 2018, I spent three months traveling around Southeast Asia. One of the reasons for my trip was an assignment for Grace Girls Home in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. While there I was able to get out and explore the area around Trincomalee, by various modes of transportation. Motorbike is always my favorite. Here are some of the photography locations I recommend for anyone going to Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.

1 – Trincomalee Fish Market

Made to Order

One day I rode along with some of the girls to the local Trincomalee fish market. This was only a couple of the older girls who were soon to be on their own. They went once a week to barter with the local fisherman and learn the skills needed to buy basic goods in the markets.

Buying & Selling

Everyone at the market was very friendly and did not mind me taking pictures. Of course I always ask, either with words or gestures. I was even introduced to the owner of the Trinco Fish Market. He told me that he always gives the Grace girls a deal on anything they buy. The community was very proud of them and wanted to help any way they could. 2 – Trincomalee Beach

Lending A Hand

Yes…I made a couple photos before going over and helping these guys beach their boat. What a beautiful sunrise it was on Trincomalee Beach this day. Actually every sunrise was like this for the week I stayed in Sri Lanka.

3 – Negombo

Child’s Play

These two images, above and below, were made while I was staying in Colombo and I took a day trip to Negombo. Both cities are on the west coast of the island, about 230km from Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. In the beginning I was quite nervous, photographing a very poor area with thousands of dollars of camera equipment. I quickly realized I was being judgmental. Therefore I started chatting with the locals, such as the man in the picture below. The complete story is in the link here or the one below.
